California is a state of great contrasts - from the north to the south and from the coast to the desert.  I've seen just a little of these contrasts and recorded what I saw in my Moleskine.  My trip out west started and finished in San Diego.  After the visit to Arizona and New Mexico I flew north to San Francisco and then drove down Highway 1 - the Pacific Coast Highway - back to San Diego, via Monterey, Pacific Grove, Carmel, San Luis Obispo, Ventura and Malibu.
